Our Herd
Our herd is the heart of Compton Family Farm & Dairy. We carefully select and raise animals that demonstrate strong health, sound structure, and productive dairy traits.
Our primary dairy herd consists of Nubian and Nigerian Dwarf goats, breeds known for producing rich milk with high butterfat content. These breeds are well suited for small dairy operations and are known for their friendly personalities and excellent milk quality.
We focus on maintaining a herd that is healthy, productive, and easy to manage through thoughtful breeding decisions and attentive daily care.
All goat kids born on our farm are bottle raised, which helps ensure they grow into friendly, well-socialized animals that are comfortable around people. Early socialization plays an important role in their development and makes routine management much easier. This approach helps when direct care is needed, such as hoof trimming, vaccinations, health checks, and other routine livestock management practices, allowing the animals to be handled safely while reducing stress for both the goats and the handler.
Our breeding program focuses on producing animals with strong dairy potential, good structure, and excellent temperaments. Many of our Nigerian Dwarf does come from herds that actively participate in milk testing programs, meaning their dams already have documented production records.
Beginning in 2026, Compton Family Farm & Dairy will also be participating in our own milk testing program, allowing us to track production and continue improving the quality and performance of our herd over time.
Our goal is to build a herd that not only produces quality milk for our farm but also contributes strong genetics to other farms and breeding programs.
